Perhaps some of you heard of our spectacular windstorm a while back. Luckily for us, the only damage on our property was to the Land Cruiser's house. The "garage" got blown over the hedges to the neighbor's driveway. Usually our neighbor parks his construction van in the driveway where our tent landed. He decided to park on the street that night in case one of the trees happened to fall. So no damage done. But now the Land Cruiser's home is ripped and the poor cruiser is exposed to the elements and our poor neighbors are exposed to the cruiser. Actually, our yard is mostly enclosed so no one really has to look at it. And in another windstorm last week, the tent was blown over in the other direction so now it is sitting on our lawn, upside down, collecting rain. How white-trash are we?
So Eric has decided that it is time to sell his first true love. I'm sad about this actually. I hoped that he could repair the dear Cruiser and we could drive it again, just like in those care-free days of courtship and early marriage w/out children. Oh how in love we were....
Know anyone who wants to buy a beloved, but dead, old car and then put in $5,000-10,000 to restore it?
We were also without power for 28 hours. Some were w/out for much longer so we were glad it was only 1 day. We went for a walk around the neighborhood in the morning because even though it was only 8:30 the kids were already stir-crazy. 2 blocks down from us there was a car smashed by a fallen tree and a house with a tree fallen on it. School was cancelled but Eric's office had power so he was gone for the day, and warm. We slowly got colder and colder. We do have a kerosene heater (that looks like that R2 unit that Luke's uncle chose and then broke down before R2D2) but it doesn't heat the entire house. So about 4:30 I took the kids to the mall for dinner. I was going to make soup on our camp stove that I had set up on the washing machine but we were just freezing and tired of being cold. That night we had a campout in our bedroom in front of the fireplace. The power came back on around 2am. How did the pioneer women do it? Getting up on winter mornings in the freezing cold, and in the darkness. And never having hot showers?
