So I've had Cannon wear underware for the last day and a half. Yesterday he had no success at all (does this sound exactly like the other post about potty training?) which means he had 5 accidents and didn't seem to care about any one of them. This morning he stayed dry for 4 hours. Around 10 I had to drag him, kicking and screaming, to the toilet and make him sit down. He wasn't very willing but finally gave in and cried and screamed on the toilet for 15 minutes. When he was quiet again I read him a story (a little critter book called "The New Potty") and had him sit there longer. Finally I let him go but I stayed in the bathroom, sitting on the edge of the tub with my head in my hands. He came back about 10 minutes later and sat down again -- but don't get excited -- he didn't produce anything. I was feeling pretty desperate so I tried to bribe him. I offered to take him to Target to get a new toy if he would just go pee in the potty. He wasn't interested so I offered lunch at McDonalds. That didn't work either. I even offered both as a reward but he told me,
"naw, I don't need a new toy or McDonalds lunch."
So now he is walking around the house half dressed and just fine about it. I had gotten myself and Laine ready to go to Target because I thought that there was no way he could resist that bribe. For the next hour Laine asked me about Target, she was looking forward to the outing as much as I was. So instead, I'm telling Cannon every 5 minutes that I don't want him to pee on the couch or the chair or the floor. At one point I asked him if he needed to go potty and he said,
"not yet mom. You need to be patient. And now you need to say sorry."
Well.
At lunchtime I put his pants back on him, and he still stayed dry.
So then, Laine wasn't happy with what I gave her for lunch, homemade chili. It was leftovers but good leftovers, she ate some of it last night. She usually loves kidney beans, and pasta is one of her favorite foods, usually (this chili is served over pasta), but when I put it in front of her she started having a fit and flipped the bowl off her tray and onto the floor where it hit just right so as to splatter all over the wall, up to the ceiling, and even a little into our bedroom. So I just put her in front of the TV so I could eat my lunch. Feeling nourished, I cleaned things up, Cannon was still dry, and Laine decided that she was ready to eat but she wanted yogurt.
As I was getting it out of the fridge for her I heard Cannon pounding up the stairs. I yelled to him not to go pee in his pants, hurried and put Laine in her chair with her food then ran up the stairs after him. He had closed the door, bad sign. As I was opening it I was saying, "Cannon, don't go pee." And he said,
"I already did."
So yes, I did exactly what the experts say not to do, I got upset with him and told him that he knew better, that he knows where the pee goes and he went upstairs instead of to the toilet, then I made him clean up his puddle (because by then there was no way those extra thick undies could have held all that pee) and wash off in the shower.
And it is only 1pm.

shoot, i started reading and thought maybe today was the day and now cannon can go to preschool. don't stress, it will happen soon.
how old is he paige? i didn't get carter potty trained until he was 3 1/2 and it only happened because we went on vacation with all the cousins and he was the only "big kid" in diapers. he potty trained himself after i'd been stressing out for months. you never know what is going to be the trigger that will get them to decide it's worth it. bribe away! you never know which thing will work. but the "nah" comment made me laugh! funny boy...
