Today

These are the messes that were left behind --

-- so we could go ride bikes and play at Cannon's soon-to-be-school --
-- because the day suddenly went from gray to gorgeous! The wind was warm and the sun was out. I'm so glad we played because by the end of the hour that we were there the clouds all came back in and then the wind went cold.
I know, I sound like this wonderful mom, taking her kids out to the park on the sunny day, but wait, read on...

The Lego mess was in our bedroom because a few days ago I had to confiscate the Legos because Ridge wouldn't share just one droid Lego-guy and Cannon would not give up trying to steal one from him so they lost their Legos. Ridge was resigned but Cannon screamed and yelled and I'm surprised that I didn't find cps at my doorstep because he was so loud. It was pretty awful though this time I kept my cool. Cannon would not stay put for a time out and would not let me take the Legos, he kept grabbing the bin and fighting me for it while I was taking it away to hide it. Anyway, I had to call Eric for help, I'm not sure I've ever done that, and Cannon finally settled down but it was crazy. So I brought the Legos back out the next day but they didn't exit our room because there was actually space to play, upstairs was a mess, still is in places.

Bounce House

This morning our kind neighbors bestowed upon us this bouncy house that their son outgrew. The kids were so excited, and so was I, to see it inflate to its blue glory. And it has come to us at the perfect time as we are enjoying a Seattle-style heat wave with temperatures in the mid-80s for a couple of days. Not to worry, we'll be back to cloudy skies and 60 degree weather by next Monday.
Sommer has been enjoying freedom outdoors. At first I tried to stop her from eating leaves and flowers and dirt but now I'm just letting her have at it. She is content to just scoot around in the grass from place to place, touching everything. She was also very excited to play in the water with the kids yesterday. Just one of the gang.

What a difference a week makes

It's raining...

The weatherman wasn't kidding, the warm sun only lasted for a day. And while we did get out and enjoy the warmth on Saturday as much as we could, as the afternoon started to wane I began to feel a bittersweet feeling knowing that the next day it was going to be cold and cloudy and rainy again. I know, that is a horrible attitude but it just kind of crept up on me.

And then last week I found the perfect pair of sandals on on Zappos and ordered them, kind of an impulse buy but kind of not since I never bought sandals last summer, and now they are here but how depressing to have a new pair of fabulous sandals and no place to wear them?

And I'll have that be the last post about the depressing rain and gray skies in Seattle. I'm going to have to do some Pollyanna entries about this place because there is a lot of good here too amidst the clouds.

Sunshine Day

We bought a new slip-n-slide in honor of the warmest day of the year so far. It was in the mid-70s and just lovely all day long.


As you can see, Laine's skin is as pale as her pale pink swimsuit. Cannon's suit is skiwampus because he pulled it up himself when it was wet and I never fixed it for him.
Cannon squealing at the cold water. It was only breaking 70 when we got this all set up. Ridge enjoyed some time alone since he got started in the water after the other two.
"Hopefully you had a chance to enjoy the summer-like weather today because it will be going away for a while. We will see more typical 2008 spring weather by Sunday. " report from the weather authority today.

Eric got it in his head to build a bottle rocket with the boys' help. It worked at least once.

It was so lovely to be warm in the sunshine, if only for a day.
