Where are the Sidewalks?

Why in the world did the city planners let the building of houses and roads go on in our neighborhood without making sidewalks mandatory? We've started going on walks around the block again and it isn't easy without sidewalks. It makes walks feel stressful for me and they are one of my favorite things (list to come). Actually, there is a stretch of sidewalk in front of 5 houses that leads to a corner then it stops and then continues again around the other corner in front of 1 more house. I could only convince Laine that the stroller was a good idea on one day though she did get out and walk for part of the journey. On one occasion she insisted on pushing her doll stroller and on the other she wanted to bring her "bike" since the boys were riding theirs. Her bike is actually a push toy that she was happy to push at first but then decided she wanted to ride it but she can't do fast-feet yet. So I had to push her, and as I was doing so I started saying under my breath "this is ridiculous, I can't do this the rest of the way around the block," but then my mom brain remembered that the day before Cannon had stopped to examine a dirty shoelace in the road and he wanted to bring it home. We tied it to his bike and it was still there. I used that as a handle and pulled Laine most of the way around. So imagine all this happening basically in the middle of the road. Ridge has the sense and ablility now to be careful about cars, Cannon tries but then he needs help starting his bike again or he'll get tired so while I'm attending to him Laine goes on ahead or lags behind and ends up wandering out in the street. She is pretty good about veering back to the side when I tell her that we don't walk in the middle of the road. We don't live in a busy area and most of the time the cars that pass us slow to a crawl, but sidewalks would just be wonderful to be able to say, "Laine, we walk on the sideWALK."

I love the "fast-feet" word and you mummbling under your breath. I can visualize the whole thing, and I feel stressed about it too!
