Yesterday we became the proud owners of the Disney Cars DVD. We've been counting down to this DVD release date like it was Christmas. After Ridge got home from school we all went to Target and there were no more Cars DVDs. There were pleanty of free-pins-with-purchase though so we grabbed one of those and set off to find help. Luckily the young man we asked was able to find one for us and we started to make our way to the checkout. Ridge was so set on keeping the pin for himself but I told him he had to share. He started a whine cry about this and said "No Fair!" I told him that maybe he could give Cannon something of his so he could keep the pin for himself, a trade of sorts. To which Ridge replied, "He can have anything!" It is a neat pin, lights up, cool picture.
Laine decided that she was upset because she couldn't have popcorn and threw a huge fit, didn't want to be held, didn't want to get in the cart, didn't want to walk, so I somehow got her rigid, crying form into the cart and made it to the check-out. Laine didn't stop crying while we were waiting. The woman in front of us in line slowly gathered up her bags (I wanted her to hurry so I could swipe my card and be ready to go as quickly as possible but she was in the way) and then turned to me and asked,
"Why is she crying?"
I think my eyes got wider with disbelief that she asked me and then stood there, still in the way of the card swiper, waiting for an answer. I said, trying hard not to sound too mean spirited, "I don't know. Maybe because I didn't give her what she wanted." I was having enough trouble feeling patient with my over-excited children, let alone this lady. She got the hint that I didn't want to talk more and left, but looked us over one last time.
But we got to watch Cars! Life is good.

What that woman SHOULD have done was thank you for being a good mother!
Don't let them phase you, Paige--you're doing just fine!
