top-button swag

When we were looking for school clothes last month I told Ridge that he should just get a couple of new shirts because he might change his mind on what he wants to wear. He was having trouble finding anything he liked anyway.

At the end of the first week of school he said, "mom, you were right about the clothes thing." Really. He admitted that to me without any embarrassment. Turns out there's a style around here called "top-button swag." Lots of the guys in high school and lots of 9th graders wear button-down shirts with the long sleeves rolled up and the top button buttoned. Why? I have no idea. It's the trend.

So last week one of Ridge's friends was wearing a button-down with the top button open. A 9th grade boy walked up to him and said "top-button swag" and buttoned the top button for him. I guess I'm glad that the 9th graders are looking out for the clueless 7th graders and not bullying them. Could be a lot worse. And as far as styles go, I'm glad that Ridge has chosen this one to copy and not something else, for now at least. What's in store for next year? Of course as a mom I had to talk about setting your own trends, being comfortable in your skin and wearing what you like, that kind of thing. Maybe someday.

I wonder if that trend will sweep over to the Y... all of my boys about die when they have to keep their top button done at church. As soon as we get in the car, the tie is loosened and the top button undone! We must be behind the times here in WA ;)

Haha, what a great modest trend. Grady also can't wait to be unbuttoned.

Cute trend. I could be on board with it too!
