Dressing Friendly

Laine came downstairs the other morning and said that "today I tried to dress friendly because there's going to be a new girl in our class and I want her to know that I'll be her friend." My comment to her, before hearing this, was that she looked like Pippi Longstocking. I made sure to compliment her on her efforts to dress friendly and told her how wonderful it was that she was thinking of the new girl's feelings. Ridge shrugged and said, "Laine always dressed colorful." That is true. And most of the time I let her put together whatever combination she wants. (We went to the Vocal Point concert over the weekend and I made her change her outfit because although her shirt, skirt and leggings all had shades of green in them, they were not matching enough. I told her she can wear that outfit to school on Monday. We'll see if she remembers the combination.)

Sommer requested the colored hair things stuck in her ponytails first. Laine thought this was a great idea and wanted the same hairstyle. Usually she doesn't want to copy Sommer. So they went off to school looking very friendly. Later that evening we watched some Pippi Longstocking on YouTube. They thought she was great.

Paige, this is one of my favorite posts ever! What a kind, sweet girl you have. Wouldn't it be a wonderful world if everyone dressed (and behaved) friendlier? Love.

I also try to let my girls develop their own sense of style but there are times when they look down right ridiculous. If they told me they were trying to look friendly to attract a new kids attention I would probably let them wear whatever they wanted. That new girls is going to want to meet Laine because of Laine's sweet spirit, the outfit will just be the icing on the cake. Sommer looks adorable too.

A friendly outfit! She is definately her motherºs daughter where kindness is her life motivator. She does look like Pippi longstockings. How very creative to think about dressing friendly. Very sweet.
