Croup

A short stay in the hospital does wonders for life perspective. Massi came down with croup and it got bad enough that I took him to the ER. He didn't get better from the usual breathing treatment so they gave him a steroid and kept us overnight.

By late evening he finally sat up on his own, thanks to the arrival of French fries. I think he only ate four but after a day of not eating or drinking it was something.

We were watching Toy Story 1. At the part where Buzz falls and breaks his arm, I said "Buzz is sad." The Massimo said the same thing then burst into tears, reached for me and just cried and cried on my shoulder. It was like his first experience with empathy, recognizing that he felt so sad. I opened the blinds hoping to distract Massi when he was crying but seeing the cars pass by made him ask to go home. I don't blame him.

He was breathing much better by morning and today, Friday, he finally started eating again and got some energy to play. All he wanted during this week has been chocolate milk and to sit by me on the couch and watch shows.

I'm thankful for modern medicine. We tried all the home remedies to get Massi feeling better but they didn't work. And I'm thankful for health. Such a blessing.

That is sad and sweet at the same time. Glad to hear he is feeling better. Chocolate milk always makes me feel better too.
