Christmas lists

Went to see the Blue Angels practice last week. As we were driving to Mercer Island -- where one of Eric's jobs is located so we could meet him for lunch and see the planes -- the kids were composing Christmas lists.
It started because Laine announced to me, the day before, that she wanted a new glass tea set. Why did I buy a young 3-year-old a glass tea set in the first place? IKEA. So I told her, put it on your Christmas list. And she did. We got home, she found a marker and paper and then asked me how to spell "glass tea set" and about 5 other things. The boys thought this was a great idea, Christmas lists! Ridge went to Lego.com and searched through everything, paper and pen in hand. Cannon flipped through the Lego magazine for help with his list.
While driving to our destination, the boys were modifying their lists. I had a different reaction than I thought I would. Rather than berate them for wanting so much, I felt very grateful that they could have hope for a wonderful Christmas. They know that they won't get everything they ask for, I don't have to tell them that. I feel very blessed that we are able to give to them, to provide for them, to let them be children full of hope for good things to come in their lives.

What a great reminder, Paige! Thanks for helping me remember that I have a lot to be grateful for. :)

Definitely a good reminder. And I have to admit, I am a great advocate for lists... from January until May, I say "put it on your birthday list!" and June through December it's "... Christmas list!" Somehow, just putting it on paper makes them feel better. Come to think of it, it makes me feel better, too - you should see my Amazon wish list!
