Book and Summer day review

Our summer day started around 8ish with breakfast. We got ready for the day, the boys practiced piano, we did our workbooks, made cookies, watched Tom and Jerry, went to the library, had lunch, and it was only 12:30. Wasn't that a full day already? During Sommer's nap I started reading The Hourglass Door, the book that was waiting for me at the library. I got into it quickly enough and then naptime was over. I kept trying to read it again but just had to leave it alone. Then I started watching SYTYCD but I wanted to read so I took my book to the gym instead. Then I kept reading at home and finished the book late in the night. Want a fun summer read? Try this one.

The Hourglass Door The Hourglass Door by Lisa Mangum

My review

rating: 5 of 5 stars
Read this book! I found it as compelling and imaginative as Twlight, sans vampires. Rich with detail, enjoyed the writing style. 18-year-old protagonist so the book is considered YA lit but I thought the language and length of the story read older, written more for all the Twilight moms instead of actual teenagers. I'm looking forward to the further adventures of Abby and Dante, due out summer 2010.

Abby is a high school senior with everything in place in her life. Dante, a foreign-exchange student from Italy, shows up at school and her life beings to change. As she is pulled further into his world she encounters adventure and danger, and of course, romance. Predictable if you are trying, flaws if you are a critic, but engaging to read all the same.

I hope I haven't steered you wrong! After reading other reviews I saw more flaws in the book, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Hey, if the Twilight formula works then maybe more people should use it!

Thanks for the review - we were looking at this at the BYU bookstore, but everyone already had something they were reading. I am going to request it from my library this week! :)
