1st Pinewood Derby

Ridge's first Pinewood Derby was this week. His car was 12th place overall, not the slowest, not the fastest. We think he had fun and he learned more about winning and loosing. His car design was really neat, very creative. When I was growing up I didn't like the pinewood derby, I felt bad when my brothers' cars didn't win. But that is part of life, sometimes you don't win, lots of times you don't win, and if you can still smile afterward then you've done a good job anyway.

What an awesome Cub Scout! Eric was always really good at making creative Pinewood derby cars. Looks like he has passed that talent on to his son. Love it!

The problem with the Pinewood Derby is that the dads get involved. It is supposed to be a father/son experience but by and large the father does the cutting and sawing and shaping and polishing. I remember as a 9 year old seeing the amazing car that the Petersons made with the help of Lynn's dad. Those were incredible and at the time I was very impressed with their skills. Now I'm impressed with Lynn's Dad's tools and woodworking abilities.
