A 4-year-old girl

Our Laine turned 4! Was it really 4 years ago that she woke me in the night, ready to come into the world 2 weeks early? I was so worried about having a girl but that was a silly worry. She came out, as they all do, with a personality of her own and just figured out how to be herself, her own girl. I love her giggle, it is so delightful you can't help to laugh along. This picture was to capture the static in her hair from jumping on the trampoline but I love it because it caputures her sweet face so well.
After a birthday celebration that included a pink and purple flower cake, presents from grandparents, mom and dad, Chad and Angie, the girls' room was an explosion of tiny pastel-hued creatures. Laine was so excited about everything, so happy to be the center of attention, the birthday girl. The boys were so anxious to see what was inside her packages that they handed the presents over to her right after we finished dinner, while we were clearing the table even though our plan had been to do candles and sing and then presents. She had been very patient, and really, does a table need to be cleared off of the spaghetti mess for presents to be opened?
Laine has recently taken up sleeping residence in Cannon's room. On Christmas Eve the three older kids had a sleepover in Cannon's room. Laine has since grown very fond of being close to her older-by-19-months brother while sleeping. She has become scared of shadows cast on her own bedroom wall and says that having Sommer in the crib in the same room is not the same as having Cannon right by her. So after a month of sometimes sleeping in her room, sometimes with Cannon, we switched around Cannon's room so that it better fits the pull-out bed and she is sleeping there, for now. I think it is very sweet that she feels safer with him. And actually, they both seem to be sleeping better. And Sommer is too.
Dressed in her nightgown, dressup shoes from cousin Afton, and the dodads from her Fairy Princess game. How special to be a 4-year-old girl.

I'd love to be able to say that I'm doing everything right -- the blog just makes it look that way. If you sit near us in church on Sundays you can easily tell that things are pretty crazy around here most of the time.

I'm pretty sure that Angie, my sister-in-law, took the beautiful picture of Laine. We both took turns trying to get a great shot of that hair and I think this one was hers. So glad to have it.
