Stinker Jo

Sommer is growing up to be a little busybody. She loves yogurt drinks and I usually put hers in a sippy cup so she can't make a mess like this. Laine left the remnants of her drink on the edge of the chair instead of the table and Sommer was quick to finish it off for her and make a nice mess in the process. I find myself calling "you stinker" to her several times a day. I'm going to have to stop or she'll think it is part of her name. Usually I'm saying it as she is "running" away from me outside, trying to get into the street at the bus stop or taking off with my keys.
She doesn't seem to be any closer to leaving eating dirt behind. Beach sand does have such a nice texture though, hard to resist. Pretty girl that she is since she doesn't have gorgeous locks like Laine she is called a little boy if I put her in blue or red. She has a darling red sweatshirt with heart pockets and a heart zipper pull, girlie details but hard to see up close, so the post office guy called her a boy as did one of the girls at the bus stop.

One would think that with 3 kids in school on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and just the baby at home with me that there would be ample time for all the to-do's on my list but that is not the case. It is the case only if Sommer needs a nap and then I have about an hour until Cannon's bus comes. I had those hours on Tuesday and today and what did I do? I blogged and read in between getting the laundry sorted and the dishes to the sink.

Sommer is quite fond of reading books. I'll admit that I do try to get her to watch tv at times so that I can finish the dishes or start dinner or go to the bathroom, but tv entertains her for about 2 minutes and then she is off finding a book and bringing it to me. It is a pretty cute routine: she finds a book she wants to read, carries it to me and shows me the book while grabbing my leg so that I sit down somewhere to read to her. When I sit down she turns around and backs up so that she can sit on my lap. It is so darling -- even though by the end of the day we've read her Little People books a dozen times and even though she is most insistent in the late afternoon when everyone seems to need attention. Sometimes I have to refuse and she walks away crying or throws her chubby self on the floor and cries, but it doesn't take her long to come back with a new book and try again. Yesterday evening I warned Eric that he wouldn't be able to get anything done during the hour that he had with the girls while I was at soccer with Ridge and Cannon was at his own practice. He was doubtful but I was right, Sommer brought him book after book too. It makes me happy that she likes books more than tv, for now, and that her favorite place to sit with them is on our laps. I know it won't last forever...

It seems like the most common names I call Rachel and Jayden are "silly" and "stinker". I think it's cute! It's also a good idea to throw in their real name every now and again so they don't get confused. I think Jayden already is confused...poor girl!
