I found a Beckett Pokemon magazine for Ridge's stocking this year. I knew about Beckett because I remembered my brothers' consulting it about the value of their baseball cards when we were little, so I thought Ridge would like to do the same thing with his cards. He read it and found out about a contest they were hosting online. The contest involved posting about Pokemon on their message board and then the company was going to choose a winner based on the posts. The contest ran through mid-January. Ridge saw the prize, a Cool Collection of Pokemon cards, and was so excited to enter and so hopeful to win. I explained what he needed to do and explained again that sometimes we win, sometimes we don't.
At first he dictated to me what he wanted to post about but since I wasn't very good at spelling the names of the Pokemon he was talking about he asked if he could just do it himself. He isn't very proficient at typing, so a short paragraph would take him forever, but he was determined and posted something almost every night.
We checked the Beckett sight often to see who won the contest and imagine my complete shock when we opened the message boards and saw this:
I was so excited for him I told him that when the package came I would come and get him if it came while he was at school. Yesterday was the big day, the package arrived! We did a rough estimate and he won about 700 Pokemon cards. Hooray for Ridge!
