Bedtime

Cannon really laughed at this picture. He said that Sommer was doing a monkey face. He is holding her head to keep her looking at the camera.

There is no point in trying to sleep before 11 around here. Cannon's body clock is set to pee every night around 11. But it is only a half-awake state so he wakes up moaning and kind of crying. First he yells out, and then if we don't come he eventually gets up and staggers down the stairs. And if we aren't helping him by this point then he stops at our room to cry about it. If he has to pee later on in the night he seems to wake up better and he stops at our bed to whisper to us that he is going to the bathroom. We have tried to explain to him that he doesn't need to tell us, that he can just go, but he likes to let us know. If I fall asleep before 11 and then have to wake up and help Cannon, or feed Sommer I feel so exhausted, like I haven't slept at all.

I just helped Cannon down and up the stairs again and I'm glad I did because when I got upstairs he was in the opposite corner of the room from the door and it looked like he was about to pee into one of the toy bins. We try to limit his fluid intake in the evening but it doesn't seem to help.

Lately he has been waking up around 4am and then comes in to tell us that he can't sleep anymore and is it time for Pokemon, which starts at 7am. This has been happening so much lately that today I bought him an alarm clock. We think that he will still come down tonight to tell us that his alarm isn't working but maybe after a few days he'll get it and we'll have one less child interrupting our sleep.

Two weeks ago I took Cannon shopping for some new pants. He was so excited to get new clothes. On the way to the store we had this conversation:

Cannon: Sometimes grownups cry.

Me: That's right, you've seen me cry. Have you seen some other grownups cry?

Cannon: If a construction worker didn't have his hat on and a brick fell on his head then he would cry.

me: That would hurt a lot. (there is construction going on near our house right now, building a gas station)

Cannon: I'm going to turn off the movie in my head now about the construction workers.

me: The movie in your head?

Cannon: Yeah, sometimes when I think about something I turn on a movie in my head and then when I'm done thinking about it I turn the movie off.

Just love my Cannon.

M does that movie-in-my-head thing, too! Only, she's not always very good at turning it off!

We've, well let me rephrase that, I'VE had a horrid time getting E to sleep thru the night w/o screaming for me or coming in to sleep w/me (only after Paul leaves for work at 4am). We just started this point system w/the girls where they earn pts for various things & then get to choose toys etc on Sat (if they have enough pts). So, staying in bed all night is worth 2 pts. Guess how many times E has woken me up this week? Just ONCE! Little stinker! I can't stand to think of how much sleep I've lost, and to think she could actually control it all this time! It's all in the motivation, I guess. I'm sure peeing is a little different, but just wanted you to know that I feel your pain (minus the infant to care for, but still, I hear ya!)

He is a sweet and funny boy. Is this what I have to look forward to with potty-training a boy?

That is a great story Paige. I just love the wacky things that kids say. This has to take the cake!
